Bayerische Flugzeugwerke AG is established as the successor to the aircraft manufacturer Gustav-Otto-Flugmaschinenfabrik with its registered office at Lerchenauer Straße in Munich. In 1922, the construction of the engine, the Bayerische Motoren Werke AG brand name and logo were transferred to this company.
