The BMW M Hybrid V8 in IMSA Road America again prove that have the rhythm necessary to fight for the more important positions in the championship. During the penultimate race of the season 2026 of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the prototype hybrid BMW M Motorsport was the absolute protagonist in the circuit u.s., leading for several hours and showing a competitive performance against its major rivals.<\/p>

However, when all seemed aimed at a historical outcome, the technical problems again. The BMW M Hybrid V8 number 24 suffered problems in the brake system that forced his retirement, when he fought for the victory, while the BMW M Hybrid V8 # 25 lost positions after facing cooling problems that required a prolonged stay in the pits.<\/p>

The final result did not reflect the true performance of the German team, that throughout the weekend showed speed, strategy, and ability to fight for the first places. Despite the frustration, BMW M Motorsport maintains a positive view of the face of the last powers of the calendar.<\/p>

A home dominance of the BMW M Hybrid V8 at Road America<\/strong><\/h5>

The BMW M Team WRT came to Road America with the goal of achieving the first victory of the season in the category GTP, and from the first few sessions, it became clear that the BMW M Hybrid V8 had the potential to do so.<\/p>

During qualifying Saturday, Sheldon van der Linde managed to put the BMW M Hybrid V8 number 24 in the third output position, a privileged position for a run of six hours in one of the circuits more fast-paced and challenging calendar IMSA.<\/p>

After the first pit stops, Van der Linde took the pace of the prototype hybrid to take the lead in the competition. Its sound management allowed the BMW M Hybrid V8 is kept to the front for a significant part of the race, demonstrating a competitive balance, both in pure speed as in management of tyres and strategy.<\/p>

When it came to the turn of Dries Vanthoor at the wheel, the car number 24, he continued as one of the main protagonists. The combination between the pilots and the performance of the prototype German seemed to put BMW in an ideal position to fight for the victory.<\/p>

Technical problems hindering the fight for the victory<\/strong><\/h5>

The second half of the competition at Road America was a hard blow for BMW M Motorsport. The BMW M Hybrid V8 number 24, lost a few positions during a restart and later Vanthoor suffered a spinning top that complicated momentarily the strategy of the team.<\/p>

Despite the difficulty, BMW M Team WRT managed to regain ground by an aggressive strategy to put the car in the fight for the front. When it seemed that the team could return to the fight for victory, appeared the most important problem of the day: a fault related to the brakes.<\/p>

Due to the characteristics of high-speed Road America, to continue under those conditions was a risk too great, so the team decided to remove the vehicle.<\/p>

For BMW it was especially painful to lose the car when it was in a position to fight for the victory, and after being shown one of the rhythms more strong throughout the race.<\/p>

On the other hand, the BMW M Hybrid V8 # 25, led by Marco Wittmann and Philipp Eng, faced a different situation. After a complicated qualifying, the team opted for a strategy that could bring them back to the first places.<\/p>

The plan worked during various phases of the race, but a problem of cooling forced the team to stop for a long period of time to make repairs. The loss of time was decisive and ended up sending the prototype to the seventh position, end of the category GTP.<\/p>

Although the result was not as expected, the performance shown was confirmed that the BMW M Hybrid V8 account with the speed necessary to compete for wins.<\/p>

The BMW M4 GT3 EVO is also facing a complicated race<\/strong><\/h5>

The journey of a BMW at Road America was not easy within the categories GT. In GTD-PRO, the BMW M4 GT3 EVO number 1 of Paul Miller Racing had a similar fate after an incident that forced the team to perform major repairs.<\/p>

The car driven by Connor De Phillippi and Neil Verhagen suffered damage after impact against the barrier of tires, a situation that ended up affecting their possibilities within the competition. After a long pit stop, the team was able to complete the race, but finished in eleventh position in its category.<\/p>

In contrast, Turner Motorsport managed to rescue a positive result for BMW, within the category GTD.<\/p>

The BMW M4 GT3 EVO number 96, driven by Robby Foley, Patrick Gallagher and Francis Selldorff, he completed a career consistent and managed to finish in fifth place, scoring important points for the team.<\/p>

BMW M Motorsport maintaining trust and confidence for the end of season<\/strong><\/h5>

Despite the disappointment of not convert the rhythm shown in a victory, BMW M Motorsport highlighted the potential demonstrated by the BMW M Hybrid V8 throughout the weekend.<\/p>

Andreas Roos, head of BMW M Motorsport, acknowledged that the result was difficult to accept because of the performance shown by both vehicles.<\/p>

\u201cWe are incredibly disappointed. It is always frustrating to lose positions due to technical issues, but it is still more difficult when you have demonstrated a rhythm so strong and you have a real chance to fight for the win,\u201d said Roos.<\/p>

The executive also noted that the BMW M Hybrid V8 has shown a good reliability during the season and ensured that the team will analyze in detail the causes of the problems to avoid repeating similar situations.<\/p>

\u201cWe still have two races and are determined to turn around the situation and get at least one win. The whole team deserves it,\u201d he added.<\/p>

Vincent Vosse, director of the BMW M Team WRT, agreed that the team's performance was positive, although not sufficient, to achieve the expected result.<\/p>

\u201cWe started the race very well. Sheldon achieved a considerable advantage. Unfortunately, we were not able to maintain it until the end. Have a good pace, but that alone is not enough. Also we need to finish races without technical problems,\u201d he said.<\/p>

For its part, Philipp Eng described the competition as a missed opportunity. The driver of the BMW M Hybrid V8 # 25 said that the car had the pace enough to fight for a podium, but the cooling problems were the reason for the end result.<\/p>

Dries Vanthoor also lamented the abandonment of the car number 24, especially because the team had managed to recover positions and return to the fight for the victory.<\/p>

A BMW M Hybrid V8 that continues to grow in IMSA<\/strong><\/h5>

Although Road America did not end with the expected result, the performance of the BMW M Hybrid V8 left a clear conclusion: BMW M Motorsport has a platform competitive able to fight against the best prototypes of the championship IMSA.<\/p>

The rate shown during the race, the strategic capacity of the BMW M Team WRT and the performance of its pilots confirm that the project hybrid continues to evolve.<\/p>

In addition, the special design of the BMW M Hybrid V8 number 24, created alongside \u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day,\u201d added a visual element highlighted during one of the most important events of the calendar us.<\/p>
