
Munich, 15 July 2026 – BMW Group, in collaboration with Toyota Motor Europe (TME), Bosch, and Repsol, announces the launch of a pilot project for six months in Spain. The program, which began in early July, will demonstrate the real potential of the Vehicles that operate Exclusively with Fuels Eligible (VEEF)*.
The initiative will deploy a fleet of around 20 vehicles, Toyota and BMW, gasoline-powered with 100% renewable Nexa 95 Repsol, and backed by the advanced digital technology of follow-up of Bosch fuel.
This pilot aims to provide tangible evidence and in real-world conditions of the Vehicles that operate Exclusively with Fuels Eligible can be deployed effectively at scale, to support Europe's transition to decarbonize mobility through a complementary approach and technologically neutral, without leaving anyone behind.

The pilot program will focus on three key objectives:
- Availability of renewable gasoline on the market – taking advantage of the infrastructure of Repsol, currently the sole supplier of gasoline to 100% renewable in service stations public in Spain.
- Preparation of digital technologies for monitoring and certification – enabled by the system of “Digital Fuel Twin” of Bosch, which certifies the use of renewable fuel throughout its life cycle.
- Operational deployment of fleets VEEF – showing that existing vehicles can operate today with fuels to 100% renewable using the current infrastructure.
The system of Bosch will collect and validate data recharge from multiple sources, including vehicle data, service stations and transactions with fuel cards, ensuring a follow-up robust and transparent in the use of renewable fuel.
“With our ‘Digital Fuel Twin’, Bosch brings full transparency to digital across the value chain of the fuel for tracking and verification of reliable renewable fuels from the moment they enter the market to the end consumer. To accurately monitor the fuel usage in individual vehicles in real time, we're building the foundation of trust and regulatory compliance required for a wider acceptance of renewable fuels in the sector of mobility and transportation,” says Dr. Marko Babic, Head of the Area of Product at Bosch, responsible for the Digital Fuel Twin.
A scalable solution that uses vehicles and existing infrastructure
Unlike solutions that require new technologies vehicle or investment in infrastructure, the pilot uses passenger cars Toyota, Lexus and scion vehicles provided by Toyota Spain (TES) and vehicles of the fleet of BMW Group.
Highlights the scalability immediate of renewable fuels as a solution “drop-in” for the decarbonisation of road transport. Gasoline Nexa 95 renewable Repsol is produced from raw materials that are compatible with the Renewable Energy Directive (RED), offering significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions compared with fossil fuels, and is fully compatible with the engines and to the infrastructure of gasoline today. Spain has been selected as the optimal location for this demonstration due to the availability of renewable gasoline, the strong collaboration between partners and the operational support of Toyota, Spain.

To strengthen the argument of technological neutrality in Europe
The pilot program is designed to generate data and solid ideas that support the discussions of european policies on course on the decarbonisation of the automotive sector.
With the policy of the EU is currently focused predominantly on the electrification, the project aims to show that renewable fuels can play a complementary role and scalable in the reduction of CO₂ emissions. The data and findings intermediates of the pilot will be shared with policy-makers from the EU, industry players and the media, contributing to the discussions on the technological neutrality and the possible inclusion of the vehicles VEEF in future regulatory frameworks.

This pilot aims to demonstrate how renewable fuels can make today a significant contribution and sustainable decarbonization, both for new vehicles as existing,” says Pascal Ruch, Vice president of Corporate and Government Affairs for Toyota Motor Europe.
Driving a measurable impact
A key factor in the success of the project will be to promote the effective use of renewable fuel in the fleet, to support the reduction of emissions and the impact of advocacy. The pilot program also will provide valuable information for the validation of R & D and monitoring methods, the scalability of the existing approaches for tracking the refuelling physical, and the ability of the operators of fuel to link the consumption of fuel to individual vehicles.
*Fuels eligible: refers to renewable fuels and low-carbon that meet the sustainability criteria of the EU according to the Renewable Energy Directive (RED) and offer significant reductions of greenhouse gases (GHG) in terms of a well-to-wheel well-to-wheel) in comparison with fossil fuels. This includes biofuels produced from sustainable and renewable fuels derived from waste, by-products or renewable sources of energy, such as is recognized in the positions of ACEA and FuelsEurope that support the deployment of Vehicles that operate Exclusively with Fuels Eligible (VEEF).
