BMW Group Plant Munich is the parent plant of the BMW Group. It is located in the north of Munich, in the immediate vicinity of the Group headquarters, the BMW Museum and BMW Welt. Approximately 7,700 employees from more than 50 countries work at this site, 850 of whom are apprentices. Around 950 cars and more than 3,000 engines are manufactured every day, and the plant is closely integrated into the Group's global production network.
Since 1922, BMW's headquarters have been located on Lerchenauer Strasse, east of the modern Olympic Park. At first the site built aircraft engines, followed by motorcycles and finally cars and engines. BMW Group Plant Munich is among the most modern manufacturing plants in Europe. The fluid interaction of production, logistics, transport and administration in an area that encompasses approx. 500,000 square meters represents a masterful global achievement in modern vehicle manufacturing.
In 1975, the first BMW 3 Series rolled off the production line. With more than 13 million units sold since its launch, it is the world's best-selling and most successful model in the premium segment. The manufacturing process for the sixth generation of the BMW 3 Series features cutting-edge production technologies that take quality and efficiency to new heights in BMW vehicle manufacturing. Standardized product and process modules ensure a high level of productivity and variability. Thanks to these innovative manufacturing processes, new production facilities and new assembly techniques, BMW Group Plant Munich sets the standard for sustainable and environmentally friendly production today.
BMW GROUP PLANT - GUIDED TOUR
A guided tour of the BMW Group's main plant in Munich gives you access to all areas of automotive production: the press plant, the body shop, the paint shop and the assembly. The main plant is located in the north of Munich, close to the corporate headquarters, the BMW Museum and BMW Welt. Around 8,000 employees from more than 50 countries work at this location, including approximately 850 apprentices.
Around 1000 cars and more than 2000 engines are built here every day, and then integrated into the global production network. Representing all international production sites, the BMW Group main plant offers first-hand information on state-of-the-art automotive engineering. - For security reasons, the minimum age for accompanied participants on the Munich plant tour is 6 years old; Youth ages 14 and over participate in the unaccompanied tour.
- There are no guided tours of the plant on weekends, public holidays (in the State of Bavaria) and closing days related to production.
- Please understand that it is not always possible to visit all production areas. We reserve the right to cancel short-term tours, if required by production.
