The new BMW F 450 R joins the family BMW F 450 as a specific motorcycle to the road. For its development, BMW Motorrad has worked in a chassis set-up and geometry-oriented to offer a direct response, in addition to maintain under control the weight and to facilitate access to riders with different heights.
“We have everything that defines a true naked of BMW: dynamism, precision and pure driving pleasure,” said Markus Flasch, CEO of BMW Motorrad, during the presentation of the model.

Twin engine of 420 cc and 48 HP
The heart of the BMW F 450 R engine is a parallel twin of new development, with a displacement exact 420 cc and a crankshaft with a gap of 135 degrees. This configuration, accompanied by a shaft of balanced, seeks to provide a smooth operation without sacrificing the sporty character.
The propeller delivers 35 kW (48 HP) at 8,750 rpm and 43 Nm of maximum torque at 6,750 rpm. BMW Motorrad says that 80% of the available torque is already at 3,000 rpm, a feature aimed to provide a consistent response from low revs.
The motorcycle incorporates a box of six-speed gearbox and final drive by chain. In the versions that equipped, the BMW Shift Assistant Pro allows you to make changes up and down without using the clutch.
Another element is available for the F 450 R is the Easy Ride Clutch (CKD), a clutch automated that can facilitate the maneuvers, the starts and stops, especially in circulation in urban areas. When combined with the Shift Assistant Pro, allows you to dispense with the manual actuation of the clutch during a good part of the driving, while the handle remains available.
Despite its performance, the engine also seeks to maintain a consumption content. BMW Motorrad has declared consumption of 3.8 litres per 100 kilometres, while the tank 14 liters allows a range of over 350 miles. The maintenance interval is set to 10,000 kilometers.
A chassis developed for a responsive driving
The new BMW F 450 R uses as its starting point the concept of chassis developed for the BMW F 450 GS, although it receives a specific configuration for use on the road.
The tubular frame steel integrates the engine as a load bearing element, and combines welded tubes with forged components. In addition to this, a short wheelbase and an overhaul focused on getting an address agile and a direct response.
In the front we find an inverted telescopic fork KYB 43 mm In the configuration named sport-tuned suspension, damping compression and extension can be adjusted.
The rear axle uses a swinging arm double a-arm is made of aluminum and hollow cast, associated with a shock-absorbing central KYB direct connection. Their preload and damping extension can also be set.
The combination of these elements contributes to one of the main objectives of the model: to offer a motorcycle compact, accessible, and easy to handle without leaving aside a configuration-oriented driving dynamics.

Brake, electronic, and driving modes
The braking system of the BMW F 450 R is composed by a front disc floating 310 mm with clamp fixed monobloc four-piston Brembo. In the rear is disc 240 mm with floating caliper ByBre of a piston.
Among the standard equipment highlights the BMW Motorrad ABS Pro, which allows you to maintain the attendance of the ABS during braking in a curve. Also included are the Dynamic Control of Braking (DBC), the Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and the Torque Control of Engine Drag (MSR).
The F 450 R account number with three driving modes: Rain, Road and Dynamic. Depending on the version, and the equipment chosen, the packet Riding Modes Pro adds the mode Dynamic Pro, which allows a finer setup of the electronics parameters.
The motorcycle also incorporates brake lights dynamic as part of your safety equipment.
Ergonomics and technology for everyday use
BMW Motorrad has worked in a riding position that seeks to combine control and comfort. The F 450 R has a tapered handlebar aluminum, high and close to the pilot, while the tank 14 liters is designed to provide points of contact are appropriate for the legs.
The standard seat has a height of 790 mm, although the ergonomics can be modified using original accessories. Also available are a-seat Sport High, which elevates the position 20 mm, and a seat Low, which reduces it to 15 mm.
According to BMW Motorrad, there are three heights of seat available: 775, 790 and 810 mm, which allows you to adapt the bike to different heights.
The technology also occupies an important place in the new naked. The BMW F 450 R comes standard with a TFT screen of 6.5 inches, from which you can check different driving parameters and accessing features of connectivity.
In the versions equipped with the Riding Modes Pro appear three athletic displays additional information about parameters such as the traction control, braking force and the angle of inclination, in addition to a stopwatch function of turns.
The connectivity allows you to manage calls, music and navigation, while a USB-C is available in the driving position. The headlights, the taillights, and turn signal lights use LED technology.

Four configurations for the BMW F 450 R
The new BMW F 450 R will be available in four variants of equipment. The base version features a Black finish and Cosmic concentrates the proposal is essential to the model.
Above is the BMW F 450 R Exclusive, Black Cosmic, which adds the Shift Assistant Pro and the sport suspension.
The options of increased equipment are the BMW F 450 R M Sport and BMW F 450 R M Sport package Innovation, both with finish Snaefell White/M Motorsport. These versions incorporate the driving modes Pro, Shift Assistant Pro, and sport-tuned suspension.
The package Innovation adds in addition to the Easy Ride Clutch, while the ERC can be installed later as an original accessory for BMW Motorrad in the other variants.
All the versions share the overall guidance of the project: a naked compact, light and rapid response, developed around a twin engine 48 HP and with a ratio between power and weight is focused on the category A2.
With the new BMW F 450 R, BMW Motorrad takes its concept from naked to a format smaller displacement without leaving characteristic elements of the brand, from the design language inspired by models such as the S 1000 R to the electronics, safety equipment and the possibilities of configuration of the chassis.
